I have come to realize that this whole time, I had mentally responded to my challenge but failed to actually post anything to the group.... hence, this post.
My movie of choice has not yet been released but it is in my "to be watched list" and it's titled The Great Gatsby, which I'm all of you guys have heard about already, if not also read the book.
Trailer 1
Trailer 2
These two trailers include music from artists like Kanye West ("No Church in the Wild"), Florence + the Machine ("Bedhymns") , Jack White ("Love is Blindness"), and Filter("Happy Together"). By purists, this music selection has caused a lot of backlash, claiming that the director Baz Luhrmann (also known for his works, Moulin Rouge and the modern remake of Romeo and Juliet) has misrepresented what F. S. Fitzgerald originally intended, for these types of music were not around at the time in which the film takes place, i.e. the 1920's. Yet, I feel that Baz has created the perfect marriage between modern artistry and a story of the past. The soundtrack for the trailer directly correlates to the sentiments and ideas held by people of the time. Love of money and good times, desire to go back to the past and change what you would have to done.
The latter two song's "Love is Blindness" and "Happy Together", in my opinion, convey the desperation of Gatsby in his quest, how important it is for him to have his affections returned, yet that same love blinds him in a bad way.
So yeah... that's what I think :)
Who's deciding this week's challenge?
